What Happens After You Assign Your Timeshare Points?

The Question Everyone Has Right After Signing Up

Most owners get through the initial explanation and think:

“Okay… but what actually happens next?”

Fair.

Because once you assign your points, you’re not really doing anything else.

So it’s natural to wonder:

  • where do the points go
  • how do bookings actually happen
  • how does this turn into money

The Short Answer

Once your points are assigned, they’re matched against real guest demand.

Reservations are made based on that demand.

Those reservations get fulfilled.

Then you get paid.

That’s the process.

But it helps to see how each part actually plays out.

Assign Points
Match Demand
Reservation
Stay
Payout

Step 1: Your Points Enter the System

When you assign your points, they don’t just sit somewhere.

They’re made available to be used for bookings.

At this point, nothing has been reserved yet.

Your points are just ready to be matched.

Step 2: Guest Requests Are Already There

This is the part most people don’t expect.

There are already guests looking for:

  • specific resorts
  • specific dates
  • specific unit sizes

This isn’t theoretical demand.

These are actual requests.

Step 3: Matching Happens First

Instead of creating random reservations, your points are matched to those requests.

Example:

A guest is looking for:

  • a two-bedroom
  • a specific resort
  • a set check-in and check-out

If your points can fulfill that, the reservation is made.

How Matching Works

Guest request → Check availability → Reservation made if it aligns

Step 4: The Reservation Is Created

Once there’s a match, the reservation is made directly in your account.

At that moment:

  • the stay is already tied to a guest
  • the booking already has value attached

This is different from:

  • making a reservation first
  • then hoping someone books it later

Step 5: The Guest Completes Their Stay

From your side, nothing changes here.

You’re not involved in:

  • communication
  • check-in coordination
  • guest questions

Everything is handled.

The guest stays, then checks out.

Step 6: The Booking Moves to Payout

Once the stay is complete, it moves into the payout cycle.

That includes:

  • finalizing the reservation
  • processing any adjustments (if needed)
  • preparing the payment

Payout Flow

From Assigned Points to Payout

Once points are assigned, the process moves through a few simple stages.

1

Points Assigned

You choose how many points you want to make available.

2

Guest Demand Matched

Your points are matched to real guest requests and available dates.

3

Reservation Made

The booking is created once demand and availability line up.

4

Guest Stay Completed

The guest checks in, completes the stay, and checks out.

5

Payout Processed

Your payout is processed after the stay is completed and reconciled.

What You’ll See Along the Way

Even though you’re not managing anything, you’re not in the dark.

You’ll receive:

  • statements showing completed bookings
  • breakdowns of where stays occurred
  • yield and payout details

So you can see how your points are being used.

What You Don’t Have to Do

This part is worth repeating, because it’s where most people overestimate the workload.

You don’t have to:

  • create listings
  • respond to renters
  • adjust pricing
  • track bookings
  • manage cancellations

Once your points are assigned, your role is basically done.

Why This Feels Different From Other Experiences

If you’ve tried renting before, you’ve probably dealt with:

  • listings that didn’t convert
  • pricing guesswork
  • unpredictable timing

That usually comes from:

making bookings without confirmed demand

When that part changes, everything else becomes more straightforward.

Step Traditional Approach Demand-First
Booking Created before demand Created after demand
Risk May not rent Already tied to guest
Owner Role Active Hands-off

A Simple Way to Look at It

Instead of thinking:

“How do I rent my points?”

It’s easier to think:

“How are my points being matched to people who already want them?”

That’s what’s happening here.

Making Your Ownership Work for You

Once your points are assigned, there’s not much left for you to manage.

The reservations, guests, confirmations, and rental activity are handled by the Rent My Timeshare team.

Your role is simply deciding how many points you’d like to make available.

From there, the process moves forward as reservations are matched, guests stay, and payouts are processed.

The goal isn’t to create more work for owners. It’s to give you a simple way to put unused points to work while keeping the flexibility to use your ownership when you want to.
